Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho set to join Brentford
Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2022 and made an immediate impact with a stoppage-time winner against Newcastle United at Anfield.
However, that marks the high point of his Reds career as he would go on to make just 21 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring a mere three goals in the process. Carvalho spent the 2023-24 campaign initially on loan at RB Leipzig, where he struggled to secure any game time.
However, he moved to EFL Championship side Hull City in the second half of the campaign and showed his detractors what he is capable of. A return of nine goals and two assists in 20 games kept the Tigers in the hunt for a playoff spot, but ultimately his efforts proved too little too late. A return of 0.55 G/A per game is no joke for a player still developing.
Carvalho was also impressive in the pre-season, scoring against both Arsenal and Manchester United. While he did enough to impress onlookers, it would appear that the club are ready to part ways. Paul Joyce of The Times via X has confirmed that Liverpool have accepted a deal worth £27.5 million for the player’s services from fellow Premier League side, Brentford.
The Red will pocket an initial £20m with the rest being made up in add-ons. However, the club will owe Fulham 20% of the profit above £5m, the fee they signed him for in 2022. It still represents a neat profit on a player who never quite looked the part at Anfield.
Liverpool have further sweetened the deal with a 17.5% sell-on clause that should help them should Carvalho move on in the future. Given how we have profited off Dominic Solanke following his move to Tottenham Hotspur, it is fair to say that this deal has all the hallmarks of Micheal Edwards in it.
As things stand, the deal is progressing fast with the player having agreed to terms with Brentford. With a medical imminent, it could just be a matter of time before it is made official.

Much was expected of Carvalho when he moved to Liverpool, but the expectations of a club of such magnitude are not for everyone. It is difficult to see him get the nod over Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz on the left flank, a task that will get harder should the Reds manage to sign Anthony Gordon.
At just 21, Carvalho has the best years of his career ahead of him and will do well under Thomas Frank. Playing time will also be easier to come across at Brentford as he aims to rebuild his reputation as one of England’s best talents. The deal is a win-win for all parties and the coming years will tell us who eventually comes out on top.
