Liverpool slap €58 Million price tag amid transfer frenzy

Liverpool are dominating the summer transfer news despite being the only club in Europe who have not signed anyone yet. Many fans and experts outlined August as the busiest month after new head coach Arne Slot assessed the current squad.

Slot inherited a strong squad that only lost Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara early in June as their contract expired. Liverpool had many players returning from their respective loan spell, attempting to impress the new head coach in the pre-season.

Since then, the Reds have sold Fabio Carvalho to Brentford while rumours continue to persist for many more outgoing players. Whereas, the Reds recently suffered a big blow when Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi opted to stay, rejecting Richard Hughes’ attempts.

Anthony Gordon and Luis Diaz

As fans fume over another loss of a potential number six signing, Luis Diaz’s name returned in the transfer rumours. Rumours about Diaz signing for Manchester City shocked the fanbase which reliable journalists immediately rejected before it caused more chaos.

However, the Colombia international remains a prime target for Barcelona as they seek alternatives for their failed Nico Williams approach. Catalan sporting director Deco has long admired the 27-year-old, who holds a well-documented affection for the Spanish giant.

According to the Athletic (via beIN Sports), Diaz is available for €58 million ($63.2 million), still a lot for Barcelona. The Catalan giants have struggled with finances for many seasons now as they continue to recuperate from bad past decisions.

However, the situation could allow a player-plus-cash deal with Frenkie de Jong’s name already used in the rumour mill. After facing rejection from Zubimendi, one would assume that De Jong is a fine alternative but his wages are astronomical.

If De Jong could lower his demand significantly, a mutually beneficial deal for all parties involved could happen. At the same time, Liverpool eagerly keeps the Colombian, whom the Kopites adore. Nevertheless, the Reds could also return for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon if any club decides to pay the price Liverpool want for Diaz, assuming he wishes to leave as well.
