Arne Slot confirms Liverpool will not hesitate to sign the right player this summer
Liverpool boss Arne Slot saw his side turn up the heat in the second half against newly promoted Ipswich Town in their 2024–25 Premier League season opener at Portman Road. The victory propelled the Reds to the top of the Premier League standings, overtaking Manchester United, who won this season’s curtain raiser last night.
Making your top-flight debut in England, away to a newly promoted side in the early kickoff timeslot is never easy, and Slot was given an idea of what to expect in a largely even first half. However, the Dutchman made the necessary personnel and tactical tweaks as the Reds ran riot after the half-time break. Had it not been for some abject finishing, it might as well have turned into a rout.
Impressively, Slot has already gotten through to his players and has managed to inculcate his style of football without a single addition to his senior roster. The win also saw Slot become just the second Liverpool manager in history to win his first competitive game in charge of the club.
Liverpool transfers inbound?
While his tactical acumen needs praising, it is Slot’s admission in his post-game presser to TNT via Fabrizio Romano via X, that should grab the fans’ attention. In a summer where we missed out on Anthony Gordon and Martin Zubimendi, the Reds remain the only top-flight side yet to sign a player this summer.
With just under a fortnight to go before the window closes, time is running out for the club to add to their squad. If Slot is to be believed, intent is not the issue, as the Reds are ready to splash the cash should the right player become available.
“We have many good players… if we can find another one, we don’t hesitate to do so”
Given how Andy Robertson struggles, a new left-back could be a welcome addition. Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri has been linked lately, and it remains to be seen if there will be any progress in that aspect.
With Joe Gomez’s future also unclear, another centre-back will be needed if he departs the club in the coming weeks. Goncalo Inacio is a name doing the rounds, and it remains to be seen if both of these transfers are linked.

While Ryan Gravenberch impressed in the deep role in midfield, bringing in another number six should be a priority. The Martin Zubimendi deal is more or less dead, and it remains to be seen who the club will bring in, if at all. Surely, the club will do something and not risk going into another campaign underprepared.
