Nottingham Forest are in talks to land Liverpool target Santiago Gimenez
According to Graeme Bailey on X, Premier League side Nottingham Forest have initiated talks with Feyenoord Rotterdam for Santiago Gimenez, a player linked with Liverpool earlier this summer.
The Mexican was the focal point of Arne Slot’s attack during his time at Feyenoord and notched up an impressive tally of 23 goals and six assists in 30 Eredivisie games in 2023/24. Slot helped develop the 23-year-old into an ace striker who is the envy of the Dutch top flight.
It comes as no surprise that Gienez has attracted attention from across Europe. His goalscoring exploits make him a match winner and Nottingham Forest have now gotten themselves into the act. The tricky Trees have already opened talks with Feyenoord and are on the cusp of a massive coup this summer.
Gimenez was backed to follow Slot to Anfield this summer, but the rumours never got anywhere. With Diogo Jota firing all cylinders and Arne Slot keen to work with Darwin Nunez, signing the 23-year-old Mexican is far from a priority at Anfield.
While Nottingham could see their fortunes altered by the striker’s arrival, not many at Liverpool would be bothered about missing out. After all, we have a stacked frontline, which on its day is nigh on unplayable against. Gimenez would have at best, offered depth but is far from guaranteed regular minutes at Anfield, had the transfer gone through.
As things stand, Liverpool are yet to make a single senior signing this summer. Arne Slot is likely to have to negotiate his first season on Merseyside with an inherited squad. However, there is much quality within the ranks, and as long as the Dutch tactician adapts his tactics, we can go a long way this season.
We saw his tactical nous and eye for detail against Ipswich Town. It could only be the beginning for Slot and his plucky Reds.

Gimenez has the traits needed to flourish in the Premier League and at Nottingham, he, he would be the numero uno to lead the attack. While a move to the City Ground is a step-down, playing in the Premier League will certainly garner him more attention. Just 23, he has enough time on his hands, and a prolific season or two could very well see him move to an elite club.
For Liverpool, we have other priorities like a number six. However, time will tell whether we will address it this summer or not.
