Liverpool faced an emotional transition at the end of the last season when their legendary manager Jurgen Klopp stepped back. They proceeded with a thorough restructure of their management while appointing former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as the head coach.
The Reds understood Klopp’s reasoning as the toll of the highly demanding job burnt him out after nine beautiful years. Klopp produced a lot of success and miracles at Anfield despite facing incredibly high-spending rivals in the Premier League.
The German leaves a fantastic squad for Slot to reach new heights with his unique style of play. The best part about the transition is that the two coaches have similar philosophies and love the same footballing culture.
Just like Klopp, Slot prefers to develop young players and turn them into stars, playing under a high-pressing attacking mentality. Liverpool fans are excited for the new chapter that has started at Anfield while fondly remembering the memories of Klopp.
Speaking to ESPN Netherlands, Klopp revealed that he enjoyed what he saw in the early games from Liverpool under Slot. He said:
“I like his football a lot [how he] played it with, with [Feyenoord], so that’s really good. I saw Sevilla game, the preseason friendly at Anfield — big parts of it were really good. And the league game [against Ipswich], the second half was obviously really good. But it’s not important that I like it, you can see he is a very good coach and the team, I know now better than most, is a really good squad, is a really good team. So it’ll work out really well.”
There is a vast difference in tactics between the two coaches as Slot prefers more calmness compared to Klopp. The Dutchman wants the team to maintain their high-pressing and attacking philosophy but use the ball more calmly in possession.
Liverpool played a high-pressing and direct game under Klopp, always bombarding the opponents in direct attacks and counter-attacking high-tempo moves. Slot instructs the team to conserve their energy and choose the right moments to increase the effectiveness of their attacks.

Furthermore, the style allows players to leave less space in defence, narrowing the spaces when they are not in possession. Slot’s style received high praise from the fanbase so far and that is no disrespect to the former boss but only appreciation towards the new head coach.
