Liverpool are expected to table a late bid for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze
Liverpool have enjoyed one of the best starts to the new Premier League season but also one of the most disappointing transfer windows.
The Reds are running out of time if they want to add to their senior squad before the August 30 transfer deadline. They remain the only Premier League side yet to add a new face to Arne Slot’s squad.
Arne Slot’s men have started the season strongly with back-to-back wins over Ipswich Town and Brentford respectively, but with just five days left in the transfer window, fans have started losing patience over the lack of incomings at Liverpool. However, as per reports, things may finally change for the Kopites.
According to the Independent (h/t Liverpool ECHO), Crystal Palace are bracing themselves for late bids for Eberechi Eze from fellow Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
The Eagles have already sold Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen to Bayern Munich and Fulham respectively, while Newcastle United remain in talks to sign skipper Marc Guehi during the business end of the summer transfer window. As a result, they would not let Eberechi Eze leave on a cheap after his release clause expired earlier this month.
Crystal Palace could potentially now demand up to £70m for Eberechi Eze, similar to what they want for Marc Guehi, the aforementioned report adds (h/t Liverpool ECHO).
Liverpool have recently sold Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg to Brentford, but by not replacing them thus far, they have further weakened the squad. Cash is not expected to be a problem at Anfield having released and sold players throughout the window, thereby, trimming the club’s wage bill.
Two wins in as many games certainly has helped the Reds but if we are to compete in every tournament, then the club must splash the cash on quality players—be it on a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder or forward. Eberechi Eze has been Palace’s best player in the last couple of seasons and is seen as a viable option to reinforce the Reds’ midfield.
The England international, who is valued at €55million by Transfermarkt, would add a different dimension to Slot’s attack while taking the squad’s depth to another level. The 26-year-old can operate in different positions across midfield and attack, and such versatility could be a boon in Slot’s system. He is now a proven Premier League commodity and entering the peak years of his career, which must further appeal to the Reds’ management.

That being said, if Liverpool can strike a deal with Palace for Eze, not only would we land an incredible player but also strike a blow to Man City as they are also keen on the creative midfielder. A late swoop for the Eagles star would make the fans extremely happy after a tumultuous summer transfer window.
