Liverpool eye two transfers before Deadline Day

Liverpool have made a good start to the Premier League season but that has not meant that their transfer business this summer, or the lack of it for that matter, has been pushed under the rug by the fans.

Arne Slot’s team are the only one in Europe’s top five leagues yet to make a new addition and although Giorgi Mamardashvili’s capture may be around the corner, he will not join the Reds until next year.

They even missed out on Martin Zubimendi, who decided to stay at Real Sociedad after lengthy speculation surrounding his future. Liverpool are now eyeing two new acquisitions before Deadline Day, as per Football Insider.

Slot is keen on the addition of a new versatile defender this summer with Joe Gomez’s future uncertain and also wants to bring in a number six owing to a lack of deep-lying options in the middle of the park.

The names of the players the club is specifically after are yet to be known but with a Premier League title challenge on the cards alongside Champions League participation, there is a need for fresher additions.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool are actually able to land a defender as they desire. With less than a week to go in the transfer window, no major clubs would be willing to let go of their key men due to a lack of available time to sign replacements.

A similar story could prevail as far as midfielders go but there is a fantastic free agent still in the market – Adrien Rabiot. The Frenchman is yet to find a new club after leaving Juventus and Liverpool would be a brilliant destination for him. The Reds have been linked with a transfer for him.

Liverpool are planning to snap up free agent Adrien Rabiot.
Could Adrien Rabiot be the solution to Liverpool’s midfield woes?

He can play across all positions in midfield and also has a winning CV, having spent over a decade playing at Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, whilst being linked with a swoop to the Premier League for much of his career.

It remains to be seen if indeed Liverpool are able to fulfil their transfer ambitions so late in the window but a failure in doing so will only lead to fingers pointed at the club’s hierarchy if the team’s form nosedives during the campaign due to a lack of squad depth.
