Mohamed Salah breaks another record at Anfield
If Liverpool wanted a performance that they could set as the template for the season ahead of them, it would be Sunday’s 2-0 home win over Brentford. The Reds barely put a foot wrong in the 90 minutes and most importantly, took their chances when it mattered.
Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Arne Slot’s side after just 13 minutes, finishing off a lightning counter-attack with a strike from his weak left foot. Mohamed Salah sealed the deal in the 70th minute with a smart chipped finish over Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
The goal against the Bees was the Egyptian’s second goal of the 2024/25 season—with his opening strike coming in the 2-0 away win over newly promoted Ipswich Town. This also led to him breaking another record in the famous red shirt.
According to Squawka, Mohamed Salah has now been directly involved in 128 goals in 128 Premier League appearances for Liverpool at Anfield—which includes 93 goals and 35 assists. The 32-year-old is the only player to enjoy 100 + goal contributions at home in the Premier League since he arrived at Anfield in 2017 from AS Roma.
It is another incredible milestone for the Egyptian king, who despite his advancing years continues to rule our hearts with his magical footwork, creativity, dynamism and killer goalscoring ability. He bagged 25 goals across all competitions last season and, regardless of being 32, he is showing no signs of slowing down.
Salah underlined why he is still Liverpool’s talisman and rated among the world’s best forwards, thus, banishing apprehensions regarding how he can contribute to the team given that he is playing in a new system and is now on the other side of his 30s as well. How the Nagrig-born star has begun the new season also sheds light on his undiminishing impact in a Liverpool side that is going through a transition.
In addition to his direct involvement in 128 goal contributions in as many league appearances at Anfield, Salah’s strike on Sunday saw him jump ahead of the great Robbie Fowler in the all-time list of scorers at the famous stadium. He is now the fifth highest-scorer at Anfield across all competitions with 118 goals, moving ahead of Fowler’s 117 strikes.
