Liverpool are finally making moves in the transfer market, surprising the football world as the summer deadline day draws near. New head coach Arne Slot inherited a strong squad from Jurgen Klopp that only needs a few recruitments this summer.

However, after the failed attempt to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, many Liverpool fans voiced their displeasure towards management. The fans believed that Slot was facing the same issues that Klopp faced which stopped the club from achieving success.

While Klopp achieved a lot of success, Liverpool lost a couple of Premier League titles by a point causing immense heartbreak. A big section of the fanbase has blamed the owners for not backing the Merseyside club in the transfer market.

Andy Robertson and Shaqiri

At the same time, a lot of fans have accepted the approach as Liverpool always chased glory by working hard. Meanwhile, competitive rivals like Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have continued to spend big in the transfer market consistently.

Every Premier League club are chasing Manchester City who are reaping the rewards of the huge money they spent last decade. The Reds have always acted as an opportunist in the transfer market to maintain healthy finances and keep the team competitive.

Liverpool have signed like Andy Robertson, Xherdan Shaqiri, Phil Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge in bargain prices due to smart strategy. Liverpool’s thorough scouting discovered these gems, from unknown talents to those shunned after periods of stagnation.

Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa

The Reds are ready to repeat the same strategy this summer as problems between Juventus and Federico Chiesa became apparent. According to Fabrizio Romano (via X), Liverpool have approached Juventus to sign Chiesa this summer for around €15 million price.

Transfermarkt values Chiesa at €35 million which makes the deal incredibly lucrative for the Reds with a low margin of risk. Since suffering a cruciate ligament tear during the 2021-22 season, Chiesa has struggled to reach the peak level of performance.

However, many have documented the Italian’s qualities and his versatility in playing in any attacking position. Furthermore, the 26-year-old is still in the early stages of his peak years with plenty of time to rebuild himself.

Liverpool have seen captain Virgil van Dijk struggle for a couple of years after a serious injury and then return emphatically. The Dutch captain is a perfect example of never downplaying a world-class talent and the Italy international fits that profile.

Italy legend Georgio Chiellini branded Chiesa as “unstoppable” in his exclusive interview with Stats Perform (via beIN Sports) in 2023. He said:

“Chiesa is a player that could play in every big team in Europe. He could face you 10 times and beat you nine of 10 times! He can go right and left, his pace is amazing. He’s fantastic for that type of job. He’s not the type of player that links the team, like a number 10, not a player that likes to have the ball and connect passes with team-mates, but one against one, he’s unstoppable. We have to use that in the space, one against one, starting from the edge and trying to shoot or cross into good positions. That’s the player that Chiesa is and that makes the difference.”

The 26-year-old adds much-needed cover for Mohamed Salah at the right attacking wing, something Liverpool targeted throughout the summer window. Furthermore, the fear of extreme injury proneness is not true as Chiesa played 20-plus games in the last two seasons each.
