Liverpool have been notorious in the transfer window this summer, having failed to land many of their targets. A deal for Federico Chiesa has been agreed, however, and a few more signings may follow before the window slams shut.
In the meantime, reports are emerging out of Türkiye hinting at a former Red returning to the Premier League.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain targeted by Brentford and Crystal Palace
As reported by Liverpool Echo, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may be on his way back to the Premier League, with interest registered from Brentford and Crystal Palace.
The former England international left Liverpool for Beşiktaş only last summer but can be convinced to move again after what was another injury-ridden, average-at-best campaign last term that saw him register four goals and an assist in 30 appearances across all competitions while being sidelined for 19 games in total.
Valued by Transfermarkt at €4.20 million, Oxlade-Chamberlain has in place a €4.17m-per-year contract with Beşiktaş that runs until June 2026.
If the price is right
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s talent is as undeniable as his injury record.
Given his current market valuation, his suitors have a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, the amount of money they’ll need to put aside not only for the transfer fee going Beşiktaş’s way but also for the Englishman’s wages. Secondly, the kind of role the 31-year-old will be demanding.
After all, it’s all well and good being talented, which Oxlade-Chamberlain definitely is, but given his injury record a team cannot exactly plan their strategy considering him a crucial, mostly-present-on-the-pitch player, so any role he may be offered will have to be a secondary one.
