Liverpool were dormant for most of the transfer window. In its final week, however, they’ve come alive.

Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili have been confirmed as new signings, are more may follow them before the window slams shut.

There’s also speculation about some of their existing stars whose contracts are running down, and one of them has now come out and spoken about the same.

Mo Salah wants to “enjoy” final year at Liverpool as his contract enters final year

In a recent interview ahead of his side’s game against Manchester United, Liverpool’s star forward Mo Salah has opened up about his contract situation.

The Egypt international’s Β£350k-a-week contract has entered the final 12 months, with no news on the horizon regarding a possible extension.

“I don’t think much [about the future] to be fair. The more I think with time there is more wisdom, I would say. Wise. I just came for a season and I said: ‘OK, I have one year left, so let’s just enjoy. Don’t think about the contract, don’t think about anything and really just enjoy it.’

“I don’t want to think about next year, I don’t want to think about the future, I just [say]: ‘OK, let’s enjoy the last year and we will see.’ Every week [being at my best] is the most important thing. Just take one day at a time and just be grateful to be here and that is it.”

Salah has started delivering the goods right from the get-go this, having produced two goals and an assist from his opening two games.

Salah should have been sold when Liverpool had the chance

Is this a bold claim? Perhaps. But it is one that looks at the cutthroat reality of Premier League business and asks the question, “Have Liverpool missed out on something big here?”

Last summer, the Reds rejected a Saudi bid worth at least Β£100 million for Salah, whom they brought from Roma for Β£34.3 million back in 2017. Being able to make a gargantuan profit on a player over 30 is unheard of, but that is exactly what the emerging interest from Saudi Arabia has made possible for the established European giants.

Liverpool are entering a transitional phase, in which success may or may not follow, but they need to plan and plan well, without which no success will follow and they may regress into an era of mediocrity. The money they would have received from Salah’s sale would have gone a long way towards helping them do just that, and that money is now gone.

Salah will play in Saudi Arabia sooner rather than later. The prospect of an Arab superstar entering the pitch in the Roshn Saudi League is infinitely more profound than a European player moving there for money. Liverpool may yet come to rue the day they refused to make a huge profit on said move when they had the chance.
