Liverpool are gunning for more signings after securing Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili this week.
This comes on the back of a rather dry transfer window despite a good start to the new season. Recent reports have been linking them with a move for a player plying his trade over in Central America.
Liverpool closing in on César Huerta
As reported by Kery Ruiz via X, Mexican forward César Huerta is closing in on a move to Liverpool.
Turning 24 later this year, Huerta is a relatively late bloomer, though his numbers have been impressive over the last season and he has started this season on fire.
Huerta is also likely to be available for a bargain price. Currently valued by Transfermarkt at €5 million, his contract at UNAM ends next summer.
According to Ruiz, Huerta is expected to be signed by Liverpool this season and loaned out to a Championship club for this term before integration into the Reds first team next summer.
A Luis Díaz successor?
Luis Díaz will turn 28 this season. Suffice it to say, he has been a success at Anfield ever since arriving from Porto two and a half years ago.
There’s a lot of stylistic overlap between Díaz and Huerta, hinting at the latter likely to be used to afford the former some rest throughout the season and, if things go right, take over the first-role winger role from him.
Díaz, after all, has not been alien to offers from elsewhere during his time at Liverpool, and given his advancing years it’s not unreasonable to think that the club may be tempted to make a profit off his sale in the near future.

The Reds managed to land Giorgi Mamardashvili by agreeing to loan him to Valencia for the 2024-25 season. They appear to be making a similar punt to secure Huerta as well. Whether we will see a similar outcome remains to be seen.
