After remaining dormant for most of this transfer window, the wheels at Liverpool are finally moving.

After the recent acquisitions of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa, the rumour mill has only started churning out rumours faster. And we now have a fresh update for one of this transfer window’s favourite players.

Liverpool ready to make last-ditch attempt for Marc Guéhi

As per a recent TeamTalk report, Liverpool are willing to make a last-ditch attempt for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi before the transfer window shuts.

Admired by big names all over Europe, Guéhi established himself as someone ready for the next big job over the last season and then earlier this summer by shining for England at the Euros.

Linked mostly with either a return to Chelsea or a move to Newcastle, Guéhi has managed to remain at Selhurst Park owing to his current employers being adamant on their asking price of £70 million.

Palace spent £18 million on Guéhi when they bought him from Chelsea three years ago. During his time with the South London outfit, the England international has made 114 club appearances, scoring five goals and assisting twice. His current £50k-per-week contract at Palace runs until June 2026.

Guéhi will get the job done

Guéhi is experienced enough despite being only 24 to slot into the Liverpool backline immediately. He will also make for an adequate candidate to take over the leadership of the side from Virgil van Dijk when the time comes.

Of course £70 million is steep, but so was Van Dijk’s transfer fee back in the day. And as that move taught us: expensive acquisitions pay for themselves when planned adequately.

Liverpool have demonstrated over the years their acuity in buying the right players. They could do a lot worse than going after Guéhi.
