After failing to land signings for majority of the summer, Liverpool have had their gears starting to click as the end of the transfer window draws near.

Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili are in, while other names are also being linked with a Merseyside move.

A recent report, however, hints at a late interest for one of their own.

Nottingham Forest’s recent bid for Caoimhín Kelleher rejected

As reported by The Athletic, Liverpool have rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest for their second-choice goalkeeper, Caoimhín Kelleher.

Forest were willing to offer their veteran US international keeper Matt Turner in a part-exchange agreement, which the Reds have rejected.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €20 million, Kelleher has two years remaining on his £10k-a-week Liverpool contract, with the Reds wanting somewhere in the region of £25–30 million in order to consider letting him go this summer.

During his time at Merseyside, the 14-cap Republic of Ireland international has made 47 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.

The Chelsea parody act

Much like the Blues, Forest have been notoriously signing players left, right and centre since their return to the Premier League, and much like Chelsea, they have multiple goalkeepers, none of whom they trust enough to not consider outside options.

For Liverpool, keeping hold of a homegrown player is paramount, until of course an exceptional offer comes along, which cannot be ruled out if Forest are involved.

Kelleher has demonstrated over the past years that he’s ready for a first-choice role. Forest have demonstrated their ability to throw common sense out the window. Don’t rule this move out just yet.
