Liverpool missing out on key players has been the story of their transfer window this time out for the most part.
Centre-back is one of the key positions they need to reinforce for a variety of factors, one of which being the seemingly-inevitable departure of Joe Gomez in the near future.
Now fresh reports have emerged confirming that they are set to miss out on yet another target they were keen on bringing in not too long ago.
Liverpool set to miss out on Mohamed Simakan with Al Nassr move in final stages
As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig are in the final stages with Saudi side Al Nassr to seal the move for their French defender Mohamed Simakan.
Simakan, linked with Liverpool among other clubs this summer, has been one of the standout defenders in the Bundesliga over the last three years ever since moving from French side Strasbourg.
The 24-year-old’s agreement over a five-year contract with Al Nassr sees him leave behind his €2m-per-yer contract that would have kept him at RB Leipzig for three more years.
Liverpool will need to get a defender sooner or later
Liverpool have a Virgil van Dijk-shaped problem at the back. The advancing years of the Dutchman as well as the sooner-or-later departure of Joe Gomez mean that they will need to find a long-term solution at some point.
The Reds had a golden chance of hijacking Newcastle’s faltering faltering pursuit of Marc Guéhi; they still do. But it’s going to take quite a call for them to shell out the £70 million Crystal Palace are after.

And, if they were to make that move now, noises from the outside would call them desperate, but this is the moment for them to ignore said noise and do right by themselves. If they don’t make a move now, they may find themselves short of options as the season progresses, potentially leaving themselves more desperate in search of a centre-back for next summer.
