Liverpool have bolstered their attack and surprised the football world by securing Juventus star Federico Chiesa for a bargain price. The Italy international accepted a wage cut alongside the modest transfer fee, eliminating a lot of risk factors for Liverpool.
The Reds have already signed Giorgi Mamardashvili but the Valencia star will be the senior team for the next 2025-26 season. As a result, Chiesa is the first summer signing that will immediately bolster Liverpool’s senior team for the current season.
Chiesa comes with a vast reputation and senior-level experience but also with concerns about his fitness and injury history record. The 26-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament tear in the 2021-22 season that kept him out for almost a year.
Chiesa struggled to regain the peak of his former form since returning from the injury and suffered other fitness issues. However, the Italian has played more than 30 games in all competitions during the last two seasons each for Juventus.
Chiesa established himself as the important player for Juventus and the situation only changed after the arrival of Thiago Motta. Motta wanted to make a statement of his authority and pushed several Juventus stars including Chiesa out of the club.
The situation provided Liverpool a unique opportunity to acquire a star that they have chased for several transfer windows. The Italy international is a low-risk signing with a lot of hunger and determination to prove that class is permanent.
Speaking to the press (via Liverpoolfc.com), Liverpool head coach Arne Slot highlight the immediate plans for the team involving Chiesa. He said:
“Of course we are happy with the ones we signed because I said many times that it’s difficult for us to make the team even stronger because we already have a very strong team. And if we then find them, of course we are very happy with that. Chiesa is someone who can help us for the short term and Mamardashvili is, I think, one of the examples where this club did in the past very good that they look also at the future, long-term future of the club – and that’s why we signed him.”
Speaking on the potential of Chiesa featuring against Manchester United in the away game on Sunday, Slot added:
““He’s going to train with us today but it’s a bigger chance that he is not in the squad for Sunday than he is. If injuries might come up in the upcoming two days we might need him, but I don’t expect him to be in but I cannot guarantee this.”

The 26-year-old would compete with Mohamed Salah for the right attacking position which he naturally prefers. However, Chiesa is comfortable with any attacking position which is parallel with the other attackers at Liverpool who are equally fluid.
