Liverpool fans did not enjoy the summer transfer window as rival clubs strengthened themselves while the Reds acted with patience. The Reds’ primary target Martin Zubimendi opted to stay at Real Sociedad which caused more outrage within the club’s fanbase.
However, Liverpool opted to take advantage of the opportunities in the transfer market instead of panic buying any alternative player. An opportunity arrived when the Reds signed Juventus star Federico Chiesa at a bargain price despite his incredibly high reputation.
The 26-year-old is the only signing for the Reds who can influence the current season, competing with legendary Mohamed Salah. Liverpool also signed Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to secure their future, sending him back to the Spanish club on loan.
New Juventus manager Thiago Motta exiled Chiesa and many other key Juventus players to cement his authority at the club. The situation provided Liverpool an opportunity to sign the Italian for merely £12.5m despite his €35.00m market valuation (via Transfermarkt).
Chiesa now faces his first challenge to integrate with the tactical style of Arne Slot alongside Liverpool’s philosophy. The 26-year-old should not face a lot of problems as he is naturally hard-working, and possesses all the required qualities.
The club competitions are currently postponed due to the September international break with players representing their respective national sides. However, Chiesa has not accepted Italy’s invitation to participate and the country’s coach Luciano Spalletti addressed the issue.
Speaking to the media on Monday (via Liverpool Echo), Spalletti revealed his conversation with Cheisa that led to a solution. He said:
“We spoke with Chiesa and made a balanced assessment. I would have brought him as an additional player but not have him participate in the two matches. He told me that he had spoken with his new club and needed to do specific preparation to work with them. There was a need to develop a strong, hard training period, which must adapt to the new working methods.”
Chiesa is prioritizing his integration with the Liverpool style of play, something the Reds fanbase would admire about the player. The Italy international has the versatility and quality to play in any attacking area while competing with Salah as well.

The 26-year-old faced severe injury issues after his serious cruciate ligament tear injury in the 2021-22 season. Chiesa could mimic Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk who returned from such severe injury and proved his naysayers wrong.
