Liverpool have continued a fantastic start under new head coach Arne Slot after an emphatic win over arch-rivals Manchester United. The Reds beat Man United 0-3 on their turf Old Trafford after completely dominating in every department throughout the game.

Liverpool scored two goals in the first half through left-winger Luis Diaz as he continued his positive start this season. Diaz helped his country Colombia reach the final of the Copa America during the summer, losing the final to Argentina.

The Colombian international missed most of the pre-season tour due to his late return to the club after a holiday. Diaz immediately returned to his first-team role as the left winger after his return, ahead of his competition Cody Gakpo.

Diaz and Slot

Barcelona’s continued admiration cast uncertainty over the 27-year-old’s future at the club. The Catalan club has struggled with finances but their sporting director Deco is a big fan of the Colombian international.

Diaz’s admiration for Barcelona is also public and his father’s comments about that admiration created more transfer talks last season. Nevertheless, Diaz and Liverpool fans enjoy a mutual adoration for each other and the winger has not forced any transfer.

According to TBR Football, Liverpool are ready to hand a new contract to Diaz after he impressed Slot this summer. The 27-year-old has three goals and an assist from three appearances so far in the Premier League this season.

Diaz is earning only £55,000 per week in his current salary which is much less compared to his squad competitions. Furthermore, the level of consistency and reputation that the Colombian demands a much higher salary than he ever demanded.

Regardless of what the future holds for the 27-year-old, he deserves a far better contract than what he is earning. Liverpool have big decisions on their hands as their three top stars have only months left in their contract.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are the three stars in the last year of their contract. Diaz’s contract situation means Liverpool have to decide the future of four stars who are currently first-team regulars at the club.
