In Jurgen Klopp’s final two seasons, Liverpool struggled to maintain a solid defensive record. While they remained a fortress at Anfield, their away form was often shaky, with over 45 goals conceded in each season since 2022, highlighting the need for restructuring.
Although it’s still early in the season, the initial signs under Arne Slot have been promising. The first three matchdays have given fans reason for optimism, as Liverpool has looked more resolute at the back, suggesting that some of the defensive issues may be getting addressed.
By keeping three clean sheets and maintaining a 100% record, Liverpool has certainly set a high standard in the early stages of the season. Arne Slot’s squad is the only team yet to concede a goal in the Premier League, a testament to their improved defensive solidity. After a successful visit to Old Trafford, several players took the time to praise the new era under Slot’s leadership.
Among them was Scottish fullback Andy Robertson, who, while praising the new regime, said (h/t The Mirror):
“We look a bit more secure defensively. We had a lot more control in our game today.”
He seemed pretty poised with the victory and Arne Slot’s intentions as he also went on to add how he felt before the International break
“They always say clean sheets will win you things and that’s always been the case when Manchester City have won the league and when we did. Three games without a goal conceded is really good and we want to keep that going.”
“Before the international break, I think it’s kind of crucial to get the three points and set us all on our way happy and excited, and we’ve done that. Hopefully everyone can come back fit and fighting fit.

It’s safe to say that hope has returned to Anfield after just three matchdays. Many football pundits have started to suggest that Liverpool might be just ahead of Arsenal in challenging Manchester City for the title this season. These remarks only add to the anticipation surrounding Mikel Arteta’s visit to Anfield after the international break.
The coming weeks will present a real test for Arne Slot and his squad, but for now, there’s a palpable sense of relief and optimism among the fans, reflecting on the team’s strong performances so far. The early signs suggest that Liverpool might be ready to reassert themselves as serious contenders this season.
