Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reveals that Liverpool and Mohamed Salah are keen on discussing a new contract to prolong his stay. The Reds have made a fantastic start under the new head coach Arne Slot, winning three consecutive Premier League games.
Liverpool are the only club in the Premier League not to concede a single goal heading into the international break. They beat Manchester United 0-3 at Old Trafford before the September international break commenced to put their momentum on hold.
Legendary attacker Salah has continued his incredible form for the club, raising questions about his contract situation with Liverpool. Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the three top players with their contracts expiring after the current season.
While Trent is playing in his peak years, Van Dijk and Salah are nearing the end of their prime years. Liverpool have a policy that stops them from giving lucrative contracts to players near the latter stages of their careers.
However, Salah and Van Dijk are an anomaly with their reputation, contribution and healthy relationship with the Liverpool fanbase. Furthermore, they still perform consistently as regular first-team players and are the locker-room leaders.
Salah has scored three goals and provided three assists from the three Premier League games so far this season. The 32-year-old addressed his future after the game against United, suggesting that he is playing the last year at Liverpool.
According to Fabrizio Romano (via YouTube), Salah and Liverpool will discuss a new contract and project contrary to what the 32-year-old implied. He said:
“Salah is very keen on discussing with Liverpool about the new project, is very happy with Arne Slot, the new directors and the new management. So the discussion will take place. Let’s see financially and in terms of the project, in terms of the length of the contract. There are many things to discuss. We will see how these conversations go, but for sure there will be a conversation.”
Many are taking Salah’s post-match comments as the tactics to push Liverpool into fast-forwarding the contract negotiation. Liverpool fans want the same thing and believe that the legendary attacker can contribute more with Federico Chiesa’s signing negating the risk.

Salah is earning £350,000 per week with his current contract and the potential new deal would not exceed that figure. Liverpool fans are hoping that their much-adored legend will stay at the club but understand that a mutually justifiable deal needs to happen to protect the club’s finances.
