Liverpool continued their 100 per cent start to the 2024/25 Premier League season with a clinical 3-0 victory over arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Arne Slot became the first manager for the Reds to beat Man United in his first game in charge in the 21st century, courtesy of a Luis Diaz double and Mohamed Salah’s solitary strike. The Dutchman’s side is now the only team to not concede a goal so far in the Premier League and one of just two teams alongside Manchester City to have won all three opening games so far in the campaign.

One Liverpool player who often continues to dominate the headlines is Mohamed Salah. Our Egyptian king has played a pivotal role in giving Arne Slot a successful start to his tenure at Anfield. He has registered three goals and as many assists in the opening three games of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Mohamed Salah extended his fabulous record against the Red Devils last weekend to 15 goals and six assists. Off the pitch, the forward’s post-match interview regarding his contract situation grabbed a lot of eyeballs. The Egypt international hinted that this could be his last season at Liverpool.

The 32-year-old has entered the final year of his current contract which earns him £350,000 per week at Anfield. Luis Diaz, one of Salah’s Liverpool teammates, has expressed concerns over the potential exit of the African superstar, admitting it would ‘hurt a lot’ for the club, the fans as well as the players.

“It would be hard for us, as well as for Liverpool. It will hurt a lot. He has a year to think about it; it is not easy at all,” Luis Diaz told Colombia channel Telemundo (h/t Semena).

“He always talks to us; it would be very hard to lose a player as key as he is. It is the teammate’s decision and it is respected, so hopefully he doesn’t leave.”

The Reds cannot afford to lose a player of Salah’s stature, winning mentality and experience on a free transfer. Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, the speedy forward has scored an outstanding 214 goals and registered 92 assists in 352 appearances across all competitions, thereby, establishing himself as the club’s talisman in the truest sense.

The Egyptian’s contributions have been noteworthy, to say the least, during the Jurgen Klopp era. He played crucial roles in the Merseyside outfit’s Champions League victory in 2019, Premier League title success in 2020, and other major trophies under the tutelage of Klopp.

Needless to say, Salah, who has been rated as one of the best players in the world for over five years now, would leave a gaping hole in the Liverpool squad that will be extremely difficult to fill if he decides to leave on a free transfer next summer. A mutually beneficial new contract would allow our fans to celebrate and enjoy the African attacker’s exploits for a few more seasons and or permit Liverpool to sell him for a sizeable fee that he deserves.
