Liverpool’s transfer and contract extension saga continues as we move past the deadline week. There is plenty in the aftermath of what was missed out and what is still kept eyes on. Among the many players Arne Slot and his management wanted, the Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is the one. It is no secret Liverpool went after him this summer. And among all the speculations, Zubimendi has shed some light on his future and what went on with him and Liverpool.
Zubimendi mentions feeling like home at Real Sociedad turning Liverpool down
Liverpool bid around £51 million on Zubimendi this summer transfer according to The Mirror. Nothing could move further as Real Sociedad and Liverpool failed to reach agreements. After a week or so of the transfer window, Zubimendi took time to address how he feels about being in Spain speaking to Marca :
“Real Sociedad for me is my life, I think I have spent half my life there. A lot of what I am is part of la Real, it is my life. [Our goal to qualify for] Europe is clear. The higher the position, the better.
“We have to look for our best version and, above all, compete. To feel competitive, to be recognised and to be seen with personality.”

Arne Slot looks quite happy with his midfield despite Zubimendi’s denial
While Zubimendi was clear in stating he is more than happy to be in Spain, Arne Slot had a few things he clarified on his recently. Starting with admitting to his desire for bringing the Spaniard to Anfield and things not working out. Addressing the situation he said :
“I’ve said many times already that our squad is really strong and it’s not so easy to find players who can help us or improve the squad.”
“Zubimendi was one of them to be fair, but he decided not to come. We go forward with the ones we have. [Wataru] Endo did well in pre-season. We’re in a good place.
Although things couldn’t work out between Zubimendi and the Reds, it seems to have no effect on their midfield. After the dominating victory over Manchester United before the International break, Arne Slot has expressed how impressed he is of the boys working in the middle of the pitch. There are a few other speculations of who might move out and who might join. But with 100% record with zero goals conceded before the break, things look very calm at the Merseyside.
