The situation surrounding Liverpool has been tense in recent months, with uncertainty hanging over several of their senior players. Speculation about potential departures has grown, especially after Mohamed Salah’s post-game interview following their 3-0 win at Old Trafford. Along with Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also find themselves in similar situations, with questions about their futures at Anfield.

Former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness has weighed in on the matter, suggesting that Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold could be heading to Real Madrid as free agents next summer. Souness, who spent six years playing at Anfield, believes La Liga could be an ideal fit for Alexander-Arnold. Speaking on the William Hill’s Up Three Up Front podcast, Souness remarked:

“Trent Alexander-Arnold is tailor-made for Real Madrid in terms of the way he plays, and he’s got an unbelievable delivery – not to mention he’s good friends with Jude Bellingham,”

He could end up at Madrid and that message may already have been relayed to Liverpool. I don’t see any obvious reason to take Trent off against Manchester United, other than if they know he’s leaving.

Liverpool can’t let surely let all three of them leave

Mentioning the situation, Souness took time to address how it doesn’t make sense that the management let all three of them leave. Speaking in this regard, he said:

”Liverpool can’t let all three of Trent, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk leave. I could see Trent at Real Madrid, I could see Van Dijk there as well.“

“The point being that if you’re leaving Liverpool then the only place you’d really want to go is Madrid. Van Dijk might be getting older but he’s an athlete. You can still get a couple more good years out of him. He’s a better player than what Real already have in the likes of Antonio Rudiger.”

Replacements of the fullback TAA in the shape of Conor Bradley is a possibility. Van Dijk could be looking for a new home and so can Luiz Diaz. These are some nervy times on Merseyside. While Salah has shown interest in staying, Van Dijk said he hasn’t initiated any renewal talks as of now.
