Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold backed to join Real Madrid for two particular reasons
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has less than a year remaining on his contract with the club, and with no agreement in place over a renewal so far, he will be free to discuss a Bosman transfer with parties outside of England from January.
Real Madrid have been particularly keen on him as they plot for life after Dani Carvajal. In replacing the Spanish international, they have big shoes to fill and have been enticed by a free transfer for Alexander-Arnold, who is just 25.
Graeme Souness believes Alexander-Arnold could indeed depart Liverpool for the Spanish capital for two specific reasons when speaking on the Up Front podcast. He said:
“You’d only leave Liverpool for Real Madrid and he’s tailor-made for them.”
Liverpool are the pinnacle of a footballer’s career in England but a transfer to Real Madrid would be a dream prospect for any player, not least Alexander-Arnold, who is perhaps the best player in his position.
He has won every accolade possible during his career at Anfield and could pursue a new challenge in Spain, whilst having all that it takes to fit like a sock in a team that plays a fast and dynamic brand of attacking football.
Souness also spoke about the full-back’s relationship with Jude Bellingham and stated that it could be one of the reasons why Alexander-Arnold could be tempted to join Madrid.
“Not to mention, he is good friends with Jude Bellingham. He could end up at Real Madrid. He would only leave Liverpool for Real Madrid.”
Bellingham and Alexander-Arnold were spotted together during the European Championship in Germany this summer and holidayed together thereafter in Los Angeles.
A number of players, including recent Real Madrid signings, Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe, revealed that they spoke with players at the club before signing and Alexander-Arnold could be in the process of doing just that.
At the same time, it seems like an unfathomable prospect for a much-loved and respected homegrown talent to depart the club on a free transfer, especially when he has also been tipped to take over the captain’s armband in due course.
With that said, he is also the youngest of himself, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, whose contracts expire in 2025 and Liverpool could actually ramp up efforts to retain their most long-term option among the trio in due course.

It remains to be seen how exactly the defender’s future shapes up, but it would be remiss to think that Real Madrid’s allure would not compel Alexander-Arnold into at least considering his future.
