Salah and Liverpool expected to discuss new contract soon

With every passing day, the unpleasant possibility of Mohamed Salah departing Liverpool inches closer as his contract is about to expire at the end of the season and there have not been talks so far to secure him future beyond the summer of 2025.

The Egyptian international tickled the situation after his superb performance versus Manchester United at Old Trafford. After getting two assists and scoring once against the Red Devils in Liverpool’s last Premier League clash, Salah revealed this may be his “last season” for the club and that “nobody has talked” to him yet.

Liverpool make bold decision not to sell superstar with less than 12 months left on current contract
Mohamed Salah’s contract at Liverpool has less than 12 months left.

The topic has gained a bit of traction during the international break and it is expected that Liverpool will sit down soon with Mohamed Salah to discuss his contract extension, according to Football Insider.

The former Chelsea forward is understood to be wanting a “bumper” pay packet, a prospect which Liverpool are likely to agree to although it remains to be seen how much better the Reds are able to pay him than his existing wage of £350,000 per week.

Yet, there is now a sense of imminence about both parties wanting to prolong their association and therefore, Salah’s contract extension could only be a matter of time as the Reds are also prepared to overlook their policy of not offering long-term deals and significantly high wages to players aged over 30.

Liverpool have not made any effort to replace Mohamed Salah in recent months and while Federico Chiesa is a capable right winger, he does not have his new teammate’s goal-scoring prowess. As a result, the 32-year-old’s departure would even a bit too soon given how important he remains for the team, in particular on a free transfer.

It also goes without saying that Salah’s exploits for Liverpool, where he has 200-plus goals, deserve him getting paid the kind of money he is demanding irrespective of his age.

He is undoubtedly going to prove pivotal as the season progresses and has shown signs of thriving under Arne Slot’s system as well, so a deal with the terms that Salah is after could be on the horizon.
