Liverpool face rejection in pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni
Liverpool have been keen on adding a defensive midfielder with no specialised option available to Arne Slot in the deeper lying position. Ryan Gravenberch has been impressive so far in the season but he is not an out and out defensive option, so a signing is imperative nonetheless.
It had emerged that Liverpool were keen on Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni. As a matter of fact, they had been monitoring him since his time at AS Monaco and were once again planning to test the waters with Real Madrid, just two years after he joined them in an £85 million deal from the Ligue 1 giants.
Liverpool’s attempts have already been thwarted, however, as Real Madrid have no interest in parting ways with Tchouameni any time soon while the player also remains happy at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Fabrizio Romano revealed on his Here We Go Podcast.
Liverpool will need to turn their focus towards bringing in somebody else as there is no reason for the Frenchman to leave Real Madrid, where he is one of the first names on the team sheet. That is not bound to change any time soon as Carlo Ancelotti’s men are unbeaten with Tchouameni in the starting eleven since the start of 2023/24 in all competitions.

It is for the second time in a matter of weeks that a midfielder from La Liga has rejected a move to Anfield after Martin Zubimendi turned down Liverpool’s interest to continue at Real Sociedad for another season. Nevertheless, another approach for the Spaniard next season seems like a more realistic option for Slot’s side than to continue their pursuit of Madrid’s Tchouameni.
