Liverpool despite their slow movements through the transfer window has been in a lot of connection talks. With the new era under Arne Slot, there could be a few shuffles in terms of tactics and squad.  While talks of negotiations are in order for the veterans at the club, the scouting team has also certainly been active. One such incident has now come to light.

Liverpool tried to sign Eljif Elmas during his time at Napoli

Liverpool had a few deals which couldn’t go through over the past years. One of the latest highlights according to Area Napoli say, the Reds were all set to submit a €30 million offer for Eljif Elmas to Napoli. The report also claimed that the Italian side had no intention of letting the midfielder go during the time. Hence the deal could move no further despite the North Macedonian leaving a mark on Liverpool’s scouting team.

However, in a switch of events, Elmas was allowed to leave the Serie A side to join RB Leipzig on a €23 million transfer. The contract offered him around €108,846 gross per week as he bid farewell to Napoli after five seasons and 143 appearances. Elmas is a versatile player who can play on the wing as well.

This wouldn’t be the first time we are heard about a failed transfer this season. With Zubimendi’s deal falling off and failing to sign Elmas last summer, Liverpool still look to strengthen their midfield.  There is no question that Merseyside’s current midfield has emerged on top at the start of the season.

But with the departure of Thiago and lack of experience in the midfield, the little strengthening doesn’t sound bad. With Federico Chiesa being the only major signing this summer, The Reds will be keen to bring in reinforcements in the coming window.
