Liverpool has had luck with their new recruits in the past. With Luiz Diaz finally finding his feet, Alexis Mac Allister is the crowd favourite, and a few others can be named in the sequence. Among all of them, there’s a player who has gained everyone’s attention in recent months.
Rafael van der Vaart can’t get enough of praising Ryan Gravenberch
Dutch legend Rafael Van der Vaart is known to put out bold opinions. One such opinion he made in the past was putting Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch above Jude Bellingham. Talking to BetMGM, Van der Vaart is still backing his fellow Dutch mate above the Englishman. While addressing this topic after nearly a year of him making the comparison, he said:
“I took quite a lot of stick when I said Ryan Gravenberch has the potential to be better than Jude Bellingham a year or so ago, but I stand by it,”
“I’ve always said the sky’s the limit for him if he can use his full potential and ability.
Adding on to how Gravenberch has settled at Anfield, he said:
“I’m not surprised by how good he’s been this season both for Liverpool and the Netherlands. Arne Slot has found a spot for him in the team at Liverpool and he’s thriving.”
“You just have to look at the pass he played against Germany on Tuesday to show this is a player who has everything required to go right to the top. He’s strong, quick and intelligent – Liverpool fans should be very excited about what’s to come.”
Under Arne Slot, Gravenbech appears to be carving a real niche for himself at Anfield. While he still has ways to go before challenging Bellingham on equal footing, the Dutchman has all the skills in the book to eventually make that jump in his career. Hopefully, that happens sooner rather than later.

This wouldn’t be the first time Van der Vaart has had high praise for Gravenberch. He recently reviewed his international break performances marking him as someone worth keeping a watch on. Moreover, while Bellingham had a remarkable debut year at the Spanish Capital, it is not a secret that Liverpool tried their luck with him in the last window.
In the middle of the comparison, things are looking bright for the Reds’ midfielder. He’s started all three games for Arne Slot up until now. The Dutchman has had elite passing accuracy and is also holding the lines well. It’ll be no surprise if we see him starting against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
