Liverpool are ready to battle Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United to sign Bayer Leverkusen central defender Jonathan Tah next summer. Tah has played a pivotal role under Xabi Alonso, helping them achieve invincible domestic success last season in Germany.

The 28-year-old has spent most of his senior career with Leverkusen, maintaining his first-team status under different managers throughout his tenure. The German international earns €54,423 per week at Leverkusen, a relatively low salary compared to defenders of his immense quality.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and United want to sign Tah from Leverkusen as a free agent next summer. The 28-year-old is still in the prime year of his career and has a huge reputation in the football realm.

Standing at 1.95 metres, Tah has an imposing presence in the defence of Leverkusen which operates with three central defenders. The 28-year-old thrives in Alonso’s possessional style of play with a high line, using his positioning effectively during defensive phases.

The German is an aggressive defender and dominant in aerial duels, applying his strength and height with well-timed defensive movements. Tah stays on his feet despite the aggressiveness and desire to win back position from the opposition, showcasing his maturity.

In possession, the 28-year-old uses risk-free passes and distribution to start the buildup from the backline and dictate the tempo. Many top clubs in Europe desire Tah’s all-around attributes as he fits their profile of a dominant ball-playing central defender.

Liverpool wants a left-footed centre-back to compete with and eventually succeed their legendary captain Virgil van Dijk as he ages. However, the Reds also lost Joel Matip this summer after his contract expired and Tah is his perfect potential replacement.

Liverpool have Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as other defensive options available for Arne Slot in the squad. Konate has started the season well alongside Van Dijk but his sudden dip in form last season and persistent problems with fitness is a big concern.
