Rodrygo happy at Real Madrid despite Liverpool’s interest

Liverpool have long been linked with the signing of Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes, who revealed some time ago that he had rejected a move to Anfield in order to pursue a career in the Spanish capital. It is fair to say that the Brazilian has been a hit at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he has been crucial in two Champions League victories amongst others.

The Reds’ interest in the player comes as they have been monitoring a long list of possible replacements for Mohamed Salah, who could be staying at the club beyond 2025, but with age in mind, needs a reliable substitute. Rodrygo is a versatile winger and with an eye for goal, it is no surprise why Liverpool have shown an interest in him.

However, their chances of signing him could look bleak as Fabrizio Romano has provided a crucial update on his current status at Real Madrid via Caught Offside:

“We spent the whole summer with mentions of Rodrygo for Manchester City, with mentions of Rodrygo for Premier League football, maybe Saudi, many different stories. But Rodrygo always and only wanted to stay at Real Madrid.”

Although questions have been raised about Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid, the player has consistently responded to news of his possible exit by affirming that he remains happy with the 15-time European champions and does not plan on leaving.

Liverpool face PL competition to sign Real Madrid superstar who could leave after Kylian Mbappe transfer
Liverpool have been linked with Rodrygo Goes’ transfer for several years.

In spite of the likes of Endrick and Kylian Mbappe joining Los Blancos, the 23-year-old has retained his status as a key fixture in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans having started in each of the side’s four La Liga games so far in the season as well as the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta.

Real Madrid also value the player highly and extended his contract less than a year ago, with a whopping release clause amounting to approximately £845 million. The clause has been inserted with the idea of driving away suitors for Real Madrid’s players, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior also have similar release amounts at Madrid.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool are prepared to test the waters over Rodrygo’s transfer some time down the line, but it goes without saying that the Brazilian international would be a superb replacement for Mohamed Salah.
