Ally McCoist had high praise for Arsenal’s William Saliba, describing his recent performances as delightful. The Frenchman has received high praise from both fans and pundits alike, some even proclaiming him to be the best in the world as of now.
As Arsenal’s defensive backbone, Saliba is being compared to Alan Hansen who was one of the best defenders to ever play for Liverpool.
The Rise Of William Saliba
The 23-year-old defender, who has quickly become a key figure in Arteta’s backline, made history by setting a new club record, securing 50 Premier League wins in just 66 appearances.
Saliba who is on £190,000 per week is still young, but he he is experienced for his age. He first made his mark as a teenager at Ligue One side Saint-Étienne in 2018, before Arsenal signed him for around £27million a year later. After returning to Saint-Étienne on loan, he had further loan spells at Nice and Marseille. It wasn’t until the start of 2022–23 season, Saliba was given the number 12 that he finally got his opportunity to shine at the Emirates, and he has since made the most of it.
