One was starting to wonder if that’s kind of a day for Liverpool after Luis Diaz hit the post and half a dozen half-chances went flying away. While we were talking about a few records that could be broken by Liverpool, they’ve let go of a 55-year streak. On Nottingham Forest’s visit to Anfield, a beautiful Callum Hudson-Odoi winner breached the walls of Arne Slot.
Arne Slot is frustrated with the good-for-nothing possession
The first goal conceded in the Arne Slot regime couldn’t come more heartbreakingly. Nottingham Forest got the better of the Reds with a 1-0 on their visit to Anfield on Saturday. Moreover, Liverpool had 70% possession, which has been the talking point of Arne Slot’s post-game interview via Youtube:
“The result frustrates us the most and we cannot be happy about how the game went. It was a stop-start game and we hardly created any chances.
“We only have to look at ourselves, we have to be better. Far too many times we lost the ball around the area, it was not good enough. We have to be better with the ball.
“Our decisions and execution weren’t good enough. In general, we defended quite well but the two fast players came on and made it difficult. We took a lot of risks and in the end, it was a very good goal.”
This does justice to what we saw at Anfield today. While we could see Merseyside players knocking on the door plenty of times, they have nothing to show for it. Slot couldn’t express enough how all the possessions couldn’t be converted. In other words, we say the lack of creativity and not enough intent could be it.
In the aftermath of the game, there are speculations it might be a little too early to call the Reds title contenders. While it may be a mere setback in someone’s eyes, it could be just a dent in the momentum too. Acknowledging players talking about the improvement and Slot backing his system would be important. We could hear the head coach say there was nothing else he would change in the training session tomorrow.
This means the system is being backed and it’s just the question of whether will it attain higher standards. Although a game lost among four doesn’t sound that bad, losing at Anfield is rare for Liverpool in any regard. Furthermore, Manchester City still keeping a 100% record of attaining a three-point clearance doesn’t help either. We’ve seen moments like these haunt back to Arsenal in the past and these might just be the things that differ a team to win titles.
