According to reports from Football Insider, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham sent scouts to watch Angel Gomes, the 24-year-old as he started his first England game in their 2-0 win over Finland on Tuesday, September 10. The Lille attacking midfielder, who is out of contract at the end of the season, will be able to negotiate with Premier League clubs from January to secure an agreement.
A player on the rise
Gomes joined Lille in 2020 after leaving Manchester United and has since made 118 appearances, scoring eight goals. He received his first England call-up under interim manager Lee Carsley, making his debut as a substitute in their 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland.
The Englishman is earning £11,517 per week and is open to moving back to England or pull a Jude Bellingham as Borussia Dortmund are on his trail as well. It was a relatively quiet transfer window for Arne Slot with Liverpool only signing two new first-team players Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili.
With his contract up next year, the Englishman is free to agree a pre-contract agreement with a club of his choice as early as January and the transfer race sure is heating up.
Gomes’s physicality was an issue back when he was just breaking through at United but the London-born star has proven he can handle it as Ligue 1 is considered quite a physical league.
He could compete with Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool and offer cover in several positions for Arne Slot’s squad.
