Liverpool head coach Arne Slot praised Ryan Gravenberch for playing an “unbelievable game” in the 1-3 victory over AC Milan. The Reds beat their Italian rivals at San Siro after conceding an early goal from the host through Christian Pulisic.

Liverpool quickly gained control of the game and dominated the Rossoneri on their turf to make a quick first-half turnaround. Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk scored a goal each to complete the comeback, using their set-piece strategies with perfection.

Liverpool scored another goal in the second half of the game with Dominic Szoboszlai finishing the assist from Cody Gakpo. Gravenberch acted as the main architect for the third goal which caught the eyes of the fans and football pundits.

The 22-year-old intercepted Milan’s attack in Liverpool’s half and then delivered a pinpoint pass to Szoboszlai to start the counter. The Dutch international has continued his fantastic form since the start of the new season, playing as the number six.

Gravenberch delivered impressive performances for his national team in the September international break and performed well in Nottingham Forest’s loss. According to Sofascore, the 22-year-old made seven interceptions, one tackle and one clearance while enjoying 90% passing accuracy against Milan.

Speaking to the media after the game (via Fabrizio Romano), Slot highlighted Gravenberch taking inspiration from former Dutch football legends. He said:

“He took to the occasion of playing at a stadium that’s had some unbelievable Dutch midfielders. Well, he played an unbelievable game”.

Liverpool failed to sign Martin Zubimendi during the summer to bolster the number six option within the squad under Slot. However, the unfortunate event acted as an opportunity for Gravenberch to cement his place in the starting eleven.

Gravenberch struggled to stamp his presence at Anfield during the first season due to nagging injuries that hampered his consistency. Under Slot, the 22-year-old has proven that he is worth £150,000 per week that he earns in the current Liverpool contract.
