Liverpool could not make things right in a better fashion after what happened against Nottingham Forest. On their visit to San Siro, Merseyside boys have come out on top with a 3-1 victory in game day 1 of the Champion League. After conceding early on, Arne Slot’s men inspired a dominating comeback.

As the Reds fell behind, the defensive unit needed to step up. Their resilience kept Milan at bay and played a key role in the first two goals that sparked the comeback. The Dutchman, leading his team for the first time in the UCL, reflected on the differences between the former manager and the current head coach.

Speaking in the post-match interview, Virgil Van Dijk said:

“We all know what Jürgen Klopp meant to the club over the years, what he brought to the football club, the city, the Premier League, his style of play. “

“The new manager coming in has his ideas; I don’t think so many things are different, I think there are small, subtle changes that we do in possession, and positioning at times.”

It has been a great start for Arne Slot despite the setback at Anfield last weekend. He has four wins in five games including this triumph in Italy. Not only does the team look confident going forward, but the defensive walls have barely broken a sweat. The Dutchman has made an impact with only conceding twice and scoring 10 goals over five games

While it may be true that not a lot seems to have changed after the departure of Klopp, there sure is a new feel about the squad. Also, the goal of conceding problems because of the shape problem seems to be fading away. This wouldn’t be the first time a player has acknowledged Slot’s implementation.

Liverpool will look to march on after this performance. They have three more games to go in September as they host Bournemouth on Saturday. With Manchester City already inching away, it’ll be on the Reds to avoid losing points. Although it might be very early in the season to talk about this, but given the standards of Pep Guardiola’s men it’s never too late either. Let’s wait and see how Slot’s men respond in the Premier League.
