Liverpool are ready to battle Aston Villa and Arsenal for Girona winger Viktor Tsygankov as a potential Mohamed Salah successor. The 26-year-old played a pivotal role for his Spanish side last season, helping them finish third in the La Liga.
The Spanish club are currently 10th in the La Liga table after suffering two losses in five games so far. However, both of Girona’s losses came against top opponents Atletico Madrid and Barcelona while they lost recently to Paris Saint-Germain.
Tsygankov has played a pivotal role for Girona, helping them play the first Champions League game in the club’s history. They lost the game after a blunder from goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, having a lot of positives in their first outing.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool wants Tsygankov to succeed their ageing legend Salah with Saudi Pro League clubs circling him persistently. The Egypt captain is playing in the last season of his current contract as Liverpool are deciding over his future.
Salah has continued his fine form for the club, maintaining a high level of contribution but Liverpool needs a successor. They have already signed Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili who joins the club in 2025 as Alisson Becker’s successor at Liverpool.
Liverpool could implement the same strategy by signing a worthy successor for Salah in advance with Tsygankov matching their profile. The 26-year-old is in the peak year of his career and displays the same quality as Salah barring constant contributions.
