Luis Diaz has silenced his critics with an incredible start to the current season, scoring two more goals for Liverpool against Bournemouth. Liverpool beat Bournemouth 3-0 at Anfield after two goals from Diaz and a third one scored by forward Darwin Nunez.
The Reds suffered a surprise loss against Nottingham Forest last weekend at Anfield and needed to register a statement victory. They beat AC Milan in the Champions League opener during the midweek and built upon that result with this victory.
Diaz earned a deserved rest against Milan after enjoying a prolific start to the season under head coach Arne Slot. The 27-year-old returned to the starting eleven against Bournemouth and scored two goals in quick succession during the first half.
Diaz scored his first goal in the 26th minute after elegantly controlling a fantastic long ball from defender Ibrahima Konate. The Colombian added another in the 28th minute of the game after vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold made a darting central run. Trent displayed his playmaking ability by putting the ball right in front of Diaz to easily beat goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
According to SofaScore, Diaz made 48 touches in his 72-minute appearance against Bournemouth with 94% passing accuracy from 32 passes. The 27-year-old made one key pass, won four out of seven ground duels and three out of five successful dribbles.
Throughout his tenure at Liverpool, Diaz faced criticism for failing to have an end product despite his influence in play. Liverpool fans adore the 27-year-old and his incredible flamboyant skills which keep the opposition worried and busy at the left-flank.
Furthermore, Diaz’s future faced uncertainty during the summer as his childhood favourite club Barcelona remained interested in the Colombian international. However, Diaz has maintained his loyalty towards Liverpool while earning £55,000 per week in his current contract with the Reds.
