Liverpool might not have had the most active transfer windows in the recently concluded summer but have started planning for the future.
The latest Liverpool transfer rumor involves the Reds being linked to Lecce’s rising star, Patrick Dorgu, as per Calciomercato.
A heated competition is expected among Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Chelsea to secure the services of the talented Lecce sensation, Patrick Dorgu.
The Danish left-back has made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals. Lecce valued Dorgu at around £27 million during the summer, but no club was willing to match that price.
Liverpool is keen to sign the 18-year-old, who is considered one of the most promising talents in Serie A’s youth circuit. Dorgu’s transfer is primarily viewed as an investment in Liverpool’s youth development rather than an immediate addition to the first team. Somewhere down the line, he could be the club’s replacement for Andy Robertson.
The rise of Patrick Dorgu
Just a year ago, Dorgu had only four senior appearances under his belt after making his breakthrough at Lecce. The Italian club had previously signed him from Nordsjaelland in his native Denmark, where he was yet to feature for the first team.
However, after being promoted to Lecce’s senior squad, Dorgu quickly established himself, making 34 appearances across Serie A and the Coppa Italia last season. His impressive performances have attracted interest from several prominent clubs, and he earned his senior international debut for Denmark during the September break.
If Lecce can sell Dorgu for £27 million in the future, it would set a new club record, surpassing the £16 million transfer fee received for Morten Hjulmand’s move to Sporting CP in 2023. This would validate Lecce’s decision to invest in Dorgu’s development.
