Early in Klopp’s tenure, Liverpool had the chance to sign a young and highly talented Erling Haaland for a fraction of his current value. Compared to Darwin Nunez’s hefty £85m fee, Haaland would have been a bargain.

Liverpool fans will hope Darwin Nunez goes on a Crazy run of form now, having opened his account for the 2024/25 Premier League season last time out against AFC Bournemouth.

When Liverpool Could Have Tamed The Beast

Now that the Norwegian has scored an astonishing 100 goals for Manchester City in just 105 matches, it raises the question of how Liverpool could have secured this incredible talent long before he became a global sensation.

The Striker is among the highest-valued players in the market right now, alongside the elite company of Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior. The Norwegian is now earning a hefty £375,000 per week which proves his Worth.

Liverpool had a chance to sign Erling Haaland before his big move to Borussia Dortmund, with the Reds keen to bring him on board in 2019. Former Molde scout John Vik vis The Athletic shared in 2022 that both Liverpool and Arsenal were tracking the rising star during his time in Norway, but neither club took the gamble. Back then, Haaland was playing for Molde and was available for just £4m, a fraction of his current worth.

“Liverpool could have got him. Arsenal could have got him. Everyone was there to watch him but these clubs were seeing a No 9 who was tall and broad and, ‘Oh, he’s going to be a target man’. I couldn’t for the life of me see why they had narrowed him down that way.”

That must be a major regret on the end of the Reds, who could do with a deadly striker away from Nunez and an inconsistent Diogo Jota, with Haaland now one of the world’s best talents at rivals Manchester City.
