Life as a goalkeeper can come quickly to you and can even change the same. While there is always competition on your shoulders, you try to make the most of your chances. Somebody’s missing out is someone’s opening. One such opening appeared for the Irish goalkeeper Caoimhim Kelleher.
Kelleher is ready for every opportunity he gets in a Liverpool shirt
After a rough time over summer exit demands and denials, Kelleher filled in the shoes of Alisson Becker against Bournemouth on Saturday. Not only did he get the job done with a clean sheet, but he stood up to his chance making some excellent saves. Reflecting on the past few months and his first appearance in a while for Liverpool, Kelleher told the LFC media:
“The chances are few and far between sometimes so obviously I need to come in and do well. I’m happy to make some saves and the most important thing is the clean sheet, so I’m happy with that.”
This positive attitude could be hiding the pain behind the smile for Kelleher. He has been with Liverpool since 2015. Working under Jurgen Klopp and Becker, the experience he has is unquestionable. He has also proved himself from time to time in league cup games and emergencies.
Just as we thought his time could be here, Kelleher has been asked to face another challenge. With the signing of a new goalkeeper and Becker being the obvious first choice, his game-time chances are starting to look thin.

Kelleher who is currently on a £10,000 per week contract has not been shy of demanding an exit from the club. After Arne Slot signed goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in the deadline week, the Irishman was left with no choice but to demand an exit. The new signing doesn’t join Liverpool till the summer being kept on loan to Valencia.
Liverpool have been to a flying start this season. With the only setback coming at Anfield against Nottingham, there is very little to complain about. They march forward with four clean sheets in five games as the Reds will face West Ham in the third round of the EFL Cup next.
