Manchester United legend Paul Scholes begrudgingly admitted that Liverpool could play a role in the title race during this season. The Reds have won four out of their first five Premier League games, suffering a surprise loss against Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool lost 0-1 at Anfield to Forest right after the September international break which interrupted their rhythm after three victories. The Reds beat Manchester United, Ipswich Town and Brentford in the first three Premier League games to start their season.

However, the complacent loss reminded them of the similar issues they faced last season which ended in an anti-climactic end. Liverpool used the Champions League opener against AC Milan at San Siro to make a statement by beating them emphatically.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believe LIverpool could play a key role in the Premier League title race this season.

The Reds followed the Champions League victory with a strong 3-0 win over Bournemouth to rebuild their form at Anfield. Liverpool will face West Ham United in a Carabao Cup showdown on Wednesday as the tough congested fixture period continues.

The Reds are currently second in the Premier League table, only one point behind leaders Manchester City despite their loss. Man City have started their season strongly and recently managed a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in a controversial home game.

Scholes told The Overlap Fan Debate (Sky Bet via Mirror) that Liverpool could play a key role in the title race. He said:

“I think Liverpool might have something to say about the title race this year. When I look at their forward players, I think they have five or six good players.”

The Reds have a formidable attack department with two quality players in each position that makes the front three. Liverpool’s left-wing attackers Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are enjoying a fantastic run of form while competing with each other.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has continued his prolific tenure with the Reds while Federico Chiesa competes with him this season. Darwin Nunez has scored a wonder goal in his first start of the season against Bournemouth, competing with Diogo Jota.
