Liverpool head coach Arne Slot praises his squad for training hard every week, giving him a selection headache every week. Slot highlighted that the quality of the players is indisputable as that is part of the minimum requirement at Liverpool.
The Reds have won seven out of their eight games in all competitions since the start of the current season. Liverpool lost only one game against Nottingham Forest at Anfield right after the September international break which sabotaged their rhythm.
The Reds bounced back quickly and did not allow the complacent loss to dictate their strong start to the season. Liverpool defeated AC Milan in the Champions League opening fixture, followed by a victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League.
They beat West Ham United in the Carabao Cup and won away at Wolves in the last Premier League game. Liverpool need to maintain their consistency as they face Italian club Bologna in the second Champions League game on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference (Liverpoolfc.com), Slot highlighted the “hard part” that gives him selection headaches. He said:
“It’s not hard because they have quality, it’s hard because they train hard and work really hard and are really involved in the team process. That makes it hard then sometimes to make the decision to say, ‘OK, I choose these 11 and not the other ones.’ Not because they have quality, because if they wouldn’t have quality [then] they would not play here. They all have quality. But if they work real hard and they make my life really difficult then it’s hard to tell them that they don’t play. But it is part of my job [and] it is part of their lives as well.”
Liverpool will face Crystal Palace in the Premier League fixture next weekend before heading into the October international break. The Reds are facing tough opponents in an already congested season due to the change in the Champions League format.
Slot needs to make sure that the October international break will not repeat what happened in September against Forest. The Reds will return to action against Chelsea, followed by games against RB Leipzig, Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Slot inherited a formidable squad from legendary manager Jurgen Klopp, adding only Federico Chiesa during the summer. However, if the Dutchman manages to negate the injury crisis that Liverpool faced last season, he has an incredible depth.

Slot’s tactics emphasize efficiency and calmness that could negate the injury crisis and with players available, everyone could enjoy ample chances to play this season. Without an injury crisis, all Liverpool have to worry about is consistency and avoiding any more complacent games.
