Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister praised the creative ability of legendary forward Mohamed Salah, known more for his goalscoring abilities. Salah provided an incisive cross to Mac Allister for the Argentine to score a simple tap-in against Bologna on Wednesday.
Liverpool beat the Italian side 2-0 at Anfield to win their second Champions League game and continue their strong start. The Reds have won eight out of their first nine games in all competitions this season while conceding four goals.
Salah secured the victory in the second half after scoring a wonderful goal in the 75th minute of the game. The 32-year-old has continued his prolific form despite the concerns about his abilities since last season’s late struggles with form.
Salah suffered an uncharacteristic long injury lay-off last season followed by the surprise dip in his form that shocked everyone. The Egyptian’s concerning end to the last season also raised questions about his future with the Reds in the summer.
Salah is serving the last season of his contract which earns him £350,000 per week as Liverpool contemplates his future. The Reds have a strict policy that goes against giving lucrative new contracts to ageing players to avoid financial risk.
However, Salah is an anomaly with consistent importance and has a strong backup in Federico Chiesa to reduce any risk. The 32-year-old has scored six goals and provided five assists from nine games in all competitions for Liverpool so far.
Speaking to the media after the Bologna victory (via Liverpoolfc.com), Mac Allister highlighted the underrated creative aspect of Salah’s game. He said:
“To be fair, it’s quite hard [to miss from there] but you could, you never know. But a goal is a goal. Very happy because in this team we know when we make a run Mo can see everything. Really happy for him as well because he scored a goal. I think it was a good night for everyone.”
Despite the criticism of selfishness in Salah’s game at times, people forget how creative the Egypt captain is. Furthermore, selfishness is key for a prolific player like Salah which directly helps the team in the long run.

As things stand, Salah deserves a new contract and security as his continuation at Liverpool supersedes any risk factor. However, wages will play a key role in any contract extension and hopefully, the outcome is mutually beneficial for all parties.
