Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister delivered another crucial performance against Bologna amid justified praise for his midfield partner Ryan Gravenberch. Liverpool beat Bologna 2-0 at Anfield in the second Champions League game of the season to continue their strong start.

The Reds have won eight out of the nine games in all competitions so far this season, conceding four goals. Liverpool players have adjusted quickly to the new tactical style of play under head coach Arne Slot since this summer.

Gravenberch has established himself as the number six under the new tactics, allowing him to play according to his strengths. Mac Allister has played as his midfield partner alongside Dominic Szoboszlai, who plays a more advanced role for the Reds.

The Argentina international has maintained a high level of consistency which goes unnoticed at times when other players receive praise. Nevertheless, Mac Allister’s incredible performances have played a key role in Liverpool’s strong start in a new style of play.

Mac Allister scored a tap-in in the 11th minute against Bologna through an impeccable cross from legendary forward Mohamed Salah. According to SofaScore, the 25-year-old made 57 touches, enjoying 90% passing accuracy and one successful dribble out of two attempts.

Furthermore, Mac Allister won four out of six ground duels, making four interceptions and blocking one shot from the opponents. The Argentine’s dominant display alongside on-form Gravenberch played a key role in Liverpool’s superiority during the Champions League home game.

He played as a number six under legendary manager Jurgen Klopp last season and performed consistently in his makeshift role. Mac Allister’s ability to play in different positions in the midfield and deliver strong selfless performances are essential for Liverpool.

However, Liverpool fans love it when the Argentine with £150,000 per week salary plays in his preferred advanced midfield role, displaying his fantastic playmaking ability. Liverpool could make more shuffles in Mac Allister’s midfield role during the congested fixture period and hopefully, he will continue to produce more goals and assists.
