Liverpool have received a significant boost in their ongoing search for a new midfielder. Earlier in the summer, the Reds had reached an agreement with Real Sociedad for the transfer of Martin Zubimendi. However, the highly-rated Spaniard ultimately decided to remain at his boyhood club, putting a halt to the potential move to the Premier League.

Zubimendi’s decision to stay in La Liga temporarily paused Liverpool’s plans, but with new opportunities arising and the winter transfer window on the horizon, the Merseyside club could reignite their search for a dynamic midfielder to bolster their squad.

While Liverpool are expected to reignite their pursuit of Martin Zubimendi in the January transfer window, they face stiff competition from Manchester City, who view Zubimendi as a potential replacement for Rodri. With no guarantee that the Spanish midfielder will change his stance and make the move to Anfield, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has started to explore alternative options.

One of Slot’s top choices is Real Madrid’s French midfielder, Aurélien Tchouaméni. The 24-year-old has established himself as a key player for the La Liga giants, but with Liverpool’s ongoing need to strengthen their midfield, Tchouaméni could be a dream signing for the Reds if they manage to bring him to Merseyside.

Liverpool’s Interest in the Frenchman

Despite starting all seven of Real Madrid’s opening La Liga matches this season, 24-year-old Aurélien Tchouaméni has yet to fully meet the lofty expectations set after his 2022 move from Monaco. Earning £208,333 per week, the French midfielder has made 97 appearances for the Spanish giants, but there’s still a lingering sense that he hasn’t reached the performance levels anticipated when he first arrived at the club.

Tchouaméni’s undeniable talent and potential have shone in flashes, but consistency has been a challenge, prompting speculation that Real Madrid might be open to offers for him. Liverpool’s interest could present a golden opportunity for both the player and the club, as Arne Slot looks to bring in a powerhouse midfielder to bolster the Reds’ title ambitions.

And according to Fichajes, Liverpool are the club most interested in agreeing to a deal worth £66 million (€80 million). A long-term Anfield target, the Reds will already be aware of Tchouameni’s strengths and how it can be incorporated into the team’s tactics.

Real Madrid, while acknowledging Aurélien Tchouaméni’s potential, are reportedly open to selling the midfielder if a suitable offer—around £69 million—arrives. This sum would provide the Spanish giants with the flexibility to strengthen other areas or fund future transfers. Meanwhile, Liverpool are closely monitoring the Frenchman’s situation, and with their midfield rebuild underway, they seem ready to make a significant investment to bring Tchouaméni to Anfield.

With Liverpool’s need for a dynamic midfielder and Real Madrid’s openness to a potential deal, this could be one of the most intriguing transfer sagas to watch as the January window approaches.

A potential move to Liverpool could offer him fresh challenges and opportunities in one of the world’s most demanding leagues. With several top clubs keeping an eye on him, Tchouaméni’s future may be decided in the coming months.

While Ryan Gravenberch is enjoying a fantastic season at the heart of Arne Slot’s midfield, the Dutch manager knows that adding at least one more high-profile player will be essential if he is to maintain his seamless transition from Jurgen Klopp. Tchouaméni could provide the perfect complement to Liverpool’s evolving midfield, offering depth, versatility, and world-class potential.
