Liverpool have earmarked Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi as the perfect successor for their legendary forward Mohamed Salah next summer. Salah is enjoying a terrific start to the new season, continuing his prolific tenure at the club with consistent contributions.
Salah is playing in the last season of his current contract with uncertainty surrounding his future at the Merseyside club. Liverpool refrains from giving lucrative contracts to ageing players but the Egyptians remain an exceptional case due to his importance.
Nevertheless, the Reds need to operate practically and secure their future if even Salah opts to stay for more seasons. Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a similar fashion to secure their future while Allison Becker is still here.
Mamardashvili joins the Reds next summer as Allison’s successor while number-two goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher’s future remains uncertain at the club. Liverpool could implement a similar strategy to maintain future security for the attacking position despite recently signing forward Federico Chiesa.
According to Bild, Liverpool wants Dortmund star Adeyemi to succeed Salah with a potential deal of around £42 million(€50m). The Germany U21 is earning £80,777 (€96,154) per week in his current contract with three years remaining for it to expire.
Adeyemi has also enjoyed a prolific start to the season for Dortmund, scoring and assisting consistently for the German club. The 22-year-old scored a hattrick along with an assist against Celtic in Dortmund’s recent 7-1 victory in the Champions League.
The Germany U21 has five goals and five assists from eight games in all competitions for Dortmund so far. Adeyemi has displayed his incredible versatility while maintaining his strong form, playing as a left-winger, right-winger and centre-forward this season.
The Germany U21 is gradually fulfilling his incredible potential as he nears the peak year of his very young career. Nevertheless, Adeyemi boasts plenty of experience at the senior level, consistently playing since his days at Austrian club RB Salzburg.
