Manchester United legend Paul Scholes reveals that Liverpool excites him more than Arsenal to challenge Manchester City for the title. Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table with five victories and one loss from six games.

They have won eight out of their first nine games in all competitions but face tough opponents during fixture congestion. Liverpool’s true test lies after the October international break with back-to-back Premier League and Champions League games against top clubs.

Nevertheless, the Reds’ head coach Arne Slot has quickly installed his tactical style in the squad that he recently inherited. Liverpool added only Federico Chiesa to bolster the squad that legendary manager Jurgen Klopp left for Slot at the club.

Liverpool have a strong depth with two players competing for each starting position, barring a few positions that require recruitment. However, none of the recruitment is necessary and depends on players to prove themselves as Ryan Gravenberch has recently done.

Speaking to the Overlap’s Fan Debate, Scholes revealed that Liverpool are the team that excites him the most this season. He said:

“You [A Liverpool fan] don’t think you’ve got a chance? I think you’re better than Arsenal. You’ve got a better squad, and possibly team. They excite me more. It’s not nice saying that, but honestly Liverpool do excite me more when I watch them, when I see their players. Everything they’ve got, it feels better than Arsenal. I think Pep could be more worried about Liverpool than he is Arsenal.”

Slot has made several tactical changes but the philosophy remains the same as before, allowing a more effective combination. Liverpool are no longer attacking constantly and using every ball recovery to start a counter-attack but they apply more patience.

The severe injury crisis and complacency played a big role in last season’s late demise for Liverpool. The fans are hoping that the new tactics and a healthy rotation policy will maintain the fitness of the players.

While the Reds showed complacency against Nottingham Forest in their 0-1 loss at Anfield, they bounced back quickly. Slot needs to make sure that the problem will not repeat itself, particularly after an international break.
