Eberechi Eze has quickly become one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents, with standout performances for Crystal Palace attracting the attention of both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. His contributions during the 2023-24 campaign—scoring 11 goals and providing four assists—were instrumental in securing Palace’s mid-table finish. This form has elevated Eze into the spotlight, making him a prime target for top Premier League clubs looking to bolster their midfield.

Liverpool, thriving under Arne Slot, are looking to add depth to their squad, especially with the potential departure of key players like Mohamed Salah. Eze’s versatility, creativity, and attacking prowess make him an attractive option for the Reds, who continue to aim for dominance both domestically and in Europe.

Tottenham, under Ange Postecoglou, are also keen on acquiring the England international to reinforce their midfield and attack. Eze’s ability to play across multiple positions, including as an attacking midfielder or winger, fits well with Postecoglou’s dynamic style of play.

Eze may soon find himself at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Liverpool and Tottenham, with reports suggesting he might need to push for an exit from Crystal Palace in the near future. According to Football Insider, despite strong interest from both Premier League giants, neither club moved for the 26-year-old during the summer transfer window. Eze’s contract had a £68 million release clause, which expired but is expected to be reactivated, giving interested parties another opportunity to sign him for that sum.

The potential departure of Eze would be a significant blow to Palace, especially after losing his former teammate Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich this summer. Olise’s departure and immediate impact in the Bundesliga may serve as motivation for Eze to pursue a similar opportunity at a top club.

Liverpool and Tottenham’s interest reflects Eze’s growing status as one of the Premier League’s most talented playmakers. With his ability to change games through his creativity, dribbling, and goalscoring, he fits perfectly into the plans of both clubs.

How Eze could fit into the Liverpool Team

Eze’s versatility and skill set make him a perfect fit for Arne Slot’s dynamic and attacking style of play at Liverpool. Slot favours a system that thrives on quick transitions, creative attacking moves, and intelligent movement in tight spaces—all of which are strengths that Eze embodies. Whether operating out wide or in a central role, Eze’s ability to pick out key passes and drive the team forward with his dribbling would add another dimension to Liverpool’s already potent midfield.

At a reported price of £68 million, Eze could be a significant investment for Liverpool or any other top Premier League club. His current contract with Crystal Palace, which runs for another three years, gives the Eagles leverage, but Eze’s ambitions and the attention from major clubs may push for a move sooner rather than later. If Liverpool secures his signature, Eze would provide the kind of creative spark that could complement players like Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz while offering tactical flexibility to Slot’s system.

As Liverpool continues to challenge at the top of both domestic and European competitions, securing a player like Eze could be a key move in maintaining their competitive edge.

A former Arsenal youth product, Eze certainly is a late bloomer and is today amongst the best players in the Premier League. Once nicknamed the ‘drunken master’ for his languid style of play, Eze could be a match-winner for Liverpool under Slot. Whether that is something we will come to see remains to be seen.
