Liverpool may be riding high on success both domestically and in Europe, but a cloud of uncertainty hangs over the future of their star winger, Mohamed Salah. With Salah’s current contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, speculation is mounting about behind-the-scenes discussions regarding a potential extension for the Egyptian legend.

Football pundit Damien Delaney has strongly voiced his opinion that Liverpool should do everything possible to retain Salah, citing his invaluable contributions to the team. Delaney speculated that the club might be considering offering Salah a two-year contract extension, ensuring that one of the most important players in Liverpool’s recent history remains at Anfield for a few more seasons.

Given Salah’s pivotal role in the team’s ongoing success, securing his future at Liverpool would not only maintain stability but also send a strong message of intent for the Reds as they continue competing at the highest level. However, whether Salah will commit to a long-term extension remains to be seen, with both player and club undoubtedly weighing their options carefully.

Former Crystal Palace player Damien Delaney expressed during an interview with Virgin Media Sport, what he knew about Salah’s contract scenario. Here is what he said:

His comments underscore Salah’s remarkable impact at Anfield and the importance of his presence as Liverpool continues to compete for major honours. Delaney’s sentiment echoes the thoughts of many Liverpool fans who see Salah as irreplaceable, both in terms of his goal-scoring abilities and his influence on the team.

“But there has to be a compromise with his age, the amount of money he’s earning, the length of his contract. Because a fall-off at that age can be quite severe, come very quickly. He’s 32 now – he might get another year, 18 months, two years out of him.

“I think Liverpool are probably behind the scenes offering him potentially a two-year deal. But at his age, he’s gonna want four. That’s a stumbling block, as Liverpool can’t give him four years on that type of money because you then end up in an awkward situation.”

Liverpool are in talks with Mo Salah over a new contract

Salah’s continued brilliance at 32 has been crucial for Liverpool, with his 11 goal contributions in just nine appearances across all competitions this season underlining his importance. As Liverpool’s highest-paid player, earning £350,000 per week, Salah’s form and influence remain unmatched, even as speculation surrounds the future of key players.

Liverpool are believed to be in discussions or preparing talks with Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold regarding contract renewals. While Van Dijk has openly expressed his desire to extend his stay beyond 2025, Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain, with Real Madrid keeping a close eye on his contract situation.

Retaining all three would be a significant coup for Liverpool, maintaining the backbone of a team that has been instrumental in the club’s recent success. However, the potential challenges of navigating these contract talks amid interest from other top clubs could make the coming months crucial for Liverpool’s long-term stability.

Liverpool’s situation Salah is becoming increasingly precarious. The threat of a mega contract offer from the Saudi Pro League remains real, especially given the rising influence and financial muscle of clubs from the Middle East. Salah’s immense value, both on and off the pitch, makes him an enticing prospect for these clubs, and a substantial offer could be tough to ignore.

While Liverpool still have time to secure the futures of Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the clock is ticking. The club will need to act swiftly and decisively to prevent losing their top talents, especially with strong interest from elite clubs like Real Madrid for Alexander-Arnold and the lure of Saudi riches for Salah. Retaining all three players is vital for maintaining the team’s competitive edge, but the growing external pressures add urgency to the negotiations.
