Inter Milan want Liverpool defensive midfielder Wataru Endo during the January transfer window as he struggles to receive game time. Ryan Gravenberch has established himself as the Reds’ first-choice number-six midfielder this season under the new tactics of Arne Slot.
The Reds have won nine out of the first 10 games in all competitions before the October international break commenced. Slot has refrained from using too much rotation at the early stages but things will change after the international break.
The new Champions League format adds more games to the current season’s schedule with Liverpool getting tough European opponents. They will face last season’s Bundesliga’s invincible champions Bayer Leverkusen and last season’s Champions League winner Real Madrid during this season.
The top clubs play these matches alongside Premier League games, with only a few days between them. Slot will apply the rotation policy to counter the inescapable fatigue and potential of any injury crisis to the team.
Endo has acted as a top professional, biding his time to earn changes to play and help the team selflessly. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old deserves more game time which he could enjoy at a club that plays according to his strength.
According to the Italian publication Inter Live, Inter wants Endo to bolster their squad as he struggles to earn starts. The Japan captain earns £50,000 per week at Liverpool and has enjoyed a healthy rise to his reputation last season.
Legendary manager Jurgen Klopp signed Endo from VfB Stuttgart during the summer of 2023 as part of the midfield revamp. Liverpool signed Endo for £16 million after failing to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia as they chose Chelsea’s money.
Despite Endo’s age and lack of reputation, the Japan captain proved that Liverpool scouts rarely get their player assessment wrong. The 31-year-old played a pivotal role under Klopp’s direct style of play that requires a defensively strong number-six protecting spaces.
